I finished up the last training evolution yesterday morning and completed the Aviation Preflight Indoctrination course! We went “redneck parasailing” at a field in Alabama. It was awesome! Basically, they put you in a parachute and hook you up to the back of a pickup truck. When the truck starts to move, you begin running, and the next thing you know you’re about 250 feet in the air! It may not sound very safe, but we do it to practice the proper parachute landing fall technique in case I need to bail out of my airplane. The first time you do it, they keep you tethered to the truck so they can slow your rate of descent, but the second time they disconnect the line and you hit the ground much harder! I had a lot of fun and I didn’t hurt myself, so I must have learned something! I also went to the Pensacola Interstate Fair last night and had a blast. How can you make an already delicious Oreo cookie even better? Deep fry it! This morning I detached from Naval Aviation Schools Command in Pensacola and reported to Training Air Wing FIVE at NAS Whiting Field in Milton, Florida. The fun starts early Monday morning!
