Hello everyone! I just got home from running in McGuires’ St. Patrick’s Day Run through downtown Pensacola. Clearly I haven’t been running as much as I need to lately, but it was a good race nonetheless! I spent much of this week conducting aerobatic flights. At first I didn’t like it, but lately I’ve been having much more fun! This block of flights is cool too because you get to solo every other flight. I still can’t believe they let me take out a plane by myself…let alone when they tell me it’s OK to practice aerobatic maneuvers! I pulled about 4.2 Gs on my last flight during entry to a loop! That means I had roughly 800 pounds of force exerted on my body during that portion of the maneuver. Just thinking about it I can’t wait to go out and due a few more loops, barrel rolls, aileron rolls, wingovers, One-Half Cuban Eight, Immelmann, and maybe a Split-S or two! If you have no idea what I’m talking about ,I’ve included a pretty sweet video at the bottom shot by an instructor at NAS Corpus Christi that shows a few of the maneuvers pretty well. Come to think of it, I only have three aerobatic flights left before I move on to formation flying (two of the aerobatic flights are solo). Unfortunately, the week come to a tragic end yesterday when one of our aircraft was lost in an accident with fatalities near Birmingham, Alabama. My thoughts go out to the families of those involved. On a more positive note, congratulations are due to my friend Alan for successfully completing Naval Nuclear Power School last week. He will report to USS TOPEKA (SSN-754) in San Diego for duty.Saturday, March 15, 2008
